After a crazy 2020, where we were starved of film releases to enjoy at the cinema, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and a huge amount of great films set to be released in 2021!
We decided to run down the 10 we are most excited about, and think you should be as well.
There are so many great films set to be released, if there any others you can’t wait for we haven’t included, put them in the comment section, or let us know on social media!
F9 (Fast and Furious 9)
Dom Toretto and his family are back for the 9th instalment in the Fast and Furious series, and 10th film in the franchise.
We have had to wait quite a while for our dose of high-octane car chases and heists, but F9 looks like it has all ingredients to be a classic Fast and Furious film, and is set to be released in June 2021.
As mentioned, Vin Diesel returns, and is joined by Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, John Cena and more!
The Suicide Squad
Intended to be part sequel, part stand alone film, 2021’s The Suicide Squad looks to be even more colourful, eccentric and wild than the 2016 original.
It is set to be released in August, and will be the 10th release in the DC Extended Universe.
The bit that makes us the most excited is that it is being directed by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), and the cast! Margot Robbie returns as Harley Quinn, as well as Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Jai Courtney and Pete Capaldi.
The film focuses on a task force of convicts who are sent to destroy a Nazi-era prison and lab.
Black Widow
Finally, a solo Black widow film! We are so excited about this one, and can’t believe it has taken 10 years for Natasha Romanoff to get her own film.
Scarlett Johansen has played one of the MCU’s leading ladies 9 films to date, debuting in Iron Man 2 (2010). She will be joined by Florence Pugh, Ray Winstone and Stranger Things’ David Harbour.
The story follows directly from the events of 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, and is set to be released July.
Respect (Aretha Franklin Biopic)
There has been no shortage of brilliant music related biopics in recent years. Elton John and Queen featuring in the a couple of the standouts. But the upcoming ‘Respect’, looks like it could be really, really special.
Jennifer Hudson stars as the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin! It is set for release in August and will be a must watch.
No Time To Die
One of the most famous films to be disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic is No Time To Die, the 25th instalment in the James Bond franchise. Excitement was sky high for this film a year ago when the advert and theme tune was released, Billie Eilish securing one of the biggest Bond themes ever. But it has been pushed back numerous times, slightly dulling fans excitment.
However, come October, everyone won’t be able to miss seeing 007 back on the big screen.
Not only does the delay make this one one of our top 10 of 2021, but the fact that it is Daniel Craig’s 5th and final appearance as Bond! It also stars Naomie Harris, Christoph Waltz, Ralph Finnes and Rami Malek.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Ghostbusters is set for a new lease of life in 2021, and we can’t wait. All the signs so far have pointed to a great mix of nostalgia, while introducing new characters and stories into the classic series.
After the mixed reception, and poor box office performance, of the 2016 reboot, writers were keen to get back to it’s roots. Stars Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Carrie Coon and McKenna Grace are joined by legends Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and Ernie Hudson.
Set to be released in November, the story follows two children and their mother who are forced to move to a farm, and they discover family links to the original Ghostbusters, after a series of paranormal events!
Venom 2: Let There be Carnage
Tom Hardy is back as Eddie Brock/Venom for Let There be Carnage, after the success of 2018’s venom. It is set for release in September and will also star Woody Harrelson and Michelle Williams.
Unfortunately we don’t have many more details that this, but we can’t wait! Venom has been one of our favourite characters since the early 2000’s!
Spider-Man: No Way Home
After the brilliant fun and adventure that was Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home, Tom Holland is back!
The movie also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jamie Foxx and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. Alfred Molina makes a return to the spider-Man universe, after his epic role as Doctor Octopus in Toby Maguire’s Spider-Man 2.
There has been rumours for the past year or-so that Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield would be appearing in the film in some capacity. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as though this will be happening, but we can live in hope that there will be a Spider-Man meet up film soon!
Halloween Kills
Michael Myers has been terrorising our screens every Halloween season since 1978, and is set to return for the 12th film in the Halloween franchise.
Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her role as Laurie Strode, who works with new and old allies to form a mob against Michael Myers who is still loose in Haddon Field, after the events of 2018’s Halloween.
Excitingly, another sequel is already planned for next year!
Matrix 4
We are not sure if the idea of more matrix films is incredibly exciting or just a bit worrying, but given the lack of details released so far, it is safe to be excited for the moment!
Currently untitled, the 4th film in the franchise is set to be released in December and sees Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and other reprise their roles.
Paw Patrol: The Movie
Last but not least, one for the children! No doubt everyone reading this with children, nieces, nephews, or who babysits, will get to watch this one over the next few years!
But Paw Patrol has been such a hit that there will be plenty our there excited to watch this one!
Thanks for reading! What films are you most excited about?
